Crypto casinos have spent years competing through coin support, bonuses and expanding game libraries. Cloudbet is now trying a different angle, bringing first-person shooter mechanics into its casino offering with Fearshot: Phantom Mansion, a horror-themed game developed with independent studio Joy Studios.
Launched exclusively on Cloudbet on October 28, the title puts players inside a haunted mansion where they hunt ghosts using a weapon called the Phantom Blaster. Each target carries a payout multiplier, turning every encounter into a wager. Successful shots award the displayed multiplier, while missed shots cost the player their stake. The partners describe the format as “Immersive World Betting,” positioning it as an alternative to the familiar slots, instant games and table titles that dominate online casino lobbies.
The Magic of Crypto Wagers in Ghost Hunting
Fearshot builds its gameplay around a supernatural mystery involving the mansion’s former inhabitants. Players encounter different ghost characters, with each bringing its own potential reward. The Wailing Widow pays 1.1 times the stake when hit, while defeating the pursuing Inquisitor offers a 350x multiplier. Other encounters feature groups of enemies and payouts of up to 50 times the wager. A running “soul multiplier” and the Soul Collector feature add further elements to the hunt.
The first-person perspective gives players a more active role than they would have in a conventional casino game, although wagering remains central to the experience. The announcement does not fully explain how aiming, randomness and payout calculations interact, and it does not disclose the game’s return-to-player percentage or house edge. The advertised multipliers alone therefore do not establish the odds of winning.
Why Another Differentiated Product Strategy?
The launch gives Cloudbet another way to distinguish its crypto casino from competitors offering familiar slots, live dealer tables and instant-win games. Rather than making cryptocurrency the main attraction, Fearshot uses interactive gameplay as its selling point, with the crypto casino serving as the platform for real-money wagering.
Joy Studios games product manager Will Cordry said faster development tools, including AI, are helping smaller teams create immersive 3D environments. He expects traditional casino titles to retain their audience while developers explore more interactive formats that combine gameplay with betting. With the positive reception in mind, Cloudbet and Joy Studios plan to develop more Fearshot games in different settings but have yet to announce release dates.
Halloween Gives the Launch Extra Momentum
Cloudbet has paired the debut with two promotional competitions. Open House features a 24-hour leaderboard and a $5,000 prize pool, while The Haunting Hour, scheduled for October 31, offers $20,000 across the top 30 players and another $1,500 for the three leading Wailing Widow hunters. Prizes are paid in USDT, the dollar-pegged stablecoin.
Fearshot arrives as crypto casinos look for ways to make their game libraries stand out beyond payments and promotions. Despite the interest at launch, whether this shooter-style approach gains traction will depend on the appeal of its gameplay, the clarity of its betting mechanics and whether players return after the Halloween launch.
